Ontario woman, 84, accused of murder-suicide attempt

A senior citizen in London, Ont., stands accused of an attempted murder-suicide in which she allegedly tried to poison herself, her husband and two cats in her home.

London police say they received a call from paramedics Sunday evening about an octogenarian couple who were in medical distress at a residence.

It's alleged the 84-year-old woman had given "a quantity of medication" to her 83-year-old husband, and also took some herself.

Both were taken to hospital.

The husband has since been discharged. His wife is still in hospital, but police said she's in good condition.

Police allege the woman also attempted to poison two household cats, which have survived.

The woman's husband has dementia and lives in a nursing home apart from his wife, police said.

The wife has been charged with attempted murder and administering a poisonous substance to a domestic animal. The allegations against her have yet to be tested in court.
