9 Missing After Landslide at Gold Mine

At least nine people were missing after a landslide at a mine in the Erzincan district of Turkey on Tuesday, February 13.

Footage from Mustafa Sarigul, a Turkish politician, shows the moment of the landslide, which authorities said happened at around 2 pm local time.

Local media reported on Wednesday that nine people were missing and could not currently be reached by emergency services.

In a statement, Turkey’s Center for Countering Disinformation said that claims that “cyanide soil” had flowed into the Euphrates river as a result of the landslide were false.

Deaths from the incident were not reported.
