All 9 Van Doos soldiers injured in Base Gagetown training accident released from hospital

Nine soldiers from the Royal 22nd Regiment in Quebec who were injured in a training accident at Base Gagetown in New Brunswick on Friday morning have been released from the Saint John Regional Hospital.

The Van Doo soldiers — as the regiment members are most often referred — were in a LAV 6.0 armoured vehicle carrying out an exercise at 5th Canadian Division Support Base Gagetown when the accident occurred, said Capt. Evelyne Lemire, the public affairs officer for the base.

The soldiers "encountered a terrain feature and came to a sudden stop," she said.

"You're going on the terrain and there's a ditch that you don't see and you hit it, so your vehicle comes to a sudden stop," said Lemire.

One of the soldiers was treated and released at Oromocto Hospital.

The other eight were taken to Saint John Regional Hospital, and all of them were released by 4:30 p.m. AT.

Lemire said she could not release information about the injuries owing to privacy reasons, but none of the injuries are life-threatening.

The soldiers involved are members of the 2nd Battalion of Royal 22nd Regiment in Quebec, who were at Base Gagetown for training.

In an earlier accident on Sept. 14, nine soldiers were injured, four seriously, during a training exercise on the base. They were in a LAV 6.0 light-armoured vehicle and hit an embankment.
