NOTE: This post has been updated since its first publication to reflect ongoing questions regarding the couple's announcement.

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Ways Brandan Denucciõ and his wife Mary are under scrutiny after announcing she had colon cancer and he issued a plea to help raise funds to "save her life."

Brandan, who wed Mary last year, posted on Instagram over the weekend about fundraising page he'd created to help him pay for surgery to “remove [Mary's] colon cancer.”

On the page, Mary wrote that she had been “diagnosed with colon cancer” on Friday after experiencing symptoms on and off since high school, which she thought was “normal.”

Many soon doubted the validity of Mary's condition both on the site and on social media. On Monday, a day after the post was created, the fundraising campaign was halted with the reason listed as: "GoGetFunding has been requested or required to stop this campaign."

PEOPLE has reached out to TLC for comment.

Prior to the halting of their campaign, Mary admitted to being “scared of the surgery after my C-section" to have daughter Midnight in August, but she claimed her doctor told her the cancer needs to “be removed before it’s too late.”

Mary also said she doesn’t have “financial support” to fund the procedure as she’s the “only one working in the family.”

“Please don’t judge me [sic] I don’t want to die,” she wrote. “I want to spend my whole life with my daughter.”

On Monday, Brandan shared another photo on his Instagram Story of the outside of a building with the song “Keep Going” by Common Heights playing. He tagged Mary in the post as the song’s inspirational lyrics, “You’re stronger than you think you are," played over the photo.

Mary previously said her daughter “is worth everything and I've never been this happy in my whole life,” as she recalled getting “teary-eyed” after Midnight was born to Entertainment Tonight.

She got pregnant just three months after Brandan moved from the U.S. to the Philippines to be with her, and the pair broke tradition by trying for a baby prior to their marriage. They had previously vowed to stay celibate out of respect for Mary’s grandparents, but revealed they were expecting on the show as Mary admitted she was experiencing “baby fever.”

“So that's why I'm being crazy and I really want a baby, right,” Mary told cameras in a September episode. “I know we were trying, but it's different when you're trying compared to like, when it actually happens and you're like, 'OK, hold on.' Like, I thought it would take longer.”

Mary also explained why she decided to have sex before marriage in spite of her family's conservative beliefs. “Brandon is here now in person, and I really love him and I feel ready to give my all to him," she said. "You know, we're humans.”

Brandan said he was immediately confident about fatherhood when they decided to start trying. That said, he did admit in a confessional interview that his perspective had shifted a bit since Mary actually became pregnant.

“I felt really confident and I felt like I was ready to have a baby. But now that it's actually happening, I'm thinking to myself, like, where did my confidence come from?” he said. “I'm starting to have doubts. I just really hope that we can handle everything that's on our plate.”
