Actress and film producer from Sacramento lists her elegant apartment for $7.45M. See it

Actress and film producer Jessica Chastain, who was born and raised in Sacramento, has put her opulent New York City apartment up for sale for $7.45 million.

Meticulously renovated, the four-bedroom luxury co-op unit — 4B — at 205 West 57th St. drips with elegance — from the sunlit living room’s mahogany paneling, carved doorways and bay window with Tiffany Studio-created leaded glass transoms to a formal dining room with lacquered wainscoted walls and built-in window seats.

The white kitchen with soaring ceilings is a creative gathering spot with a rolling ladder “that’s both practical and a fun design element,” according to the listing. A custom, light-blue central island provides a pop of color.

The sophisticated home “evokes the grandeur of bygone days” with a parlor room entered through a framed oak doorway with pocket doors and period hardware. Grand 14-foot ceilings, plaster crown moldings, oak parquet floors and five wood-burning fireplaces add elegance. Wall coverings include restored original wainscoting and bespoke Ralph Lauren fabrics.

Guests get to the 3,200-square-foot apartment through the ornate lobby of the Osborne building, built around 1885. The entry marvels with its turn-of-the-century mosaics, marble, gilded surfaces and leaded glass. The Tiffany glass was created by Louis Comfort Tiffany and “is reputed to be Tiffany’s first decorating job,” the listing states. The Osborne cooperative is one block from Central Park.

A romantic en-suite primary bedroom is warmed by one of the wood-burning fireplaces. There’s a wall of mirrored closets, and just outside the fully tiled primary bathroom is a copper-soaking tub.

A trio of windows in a sunny east-facing bedroom has views of Carnegie Hall.

Chastain, 47, and her husband Italian fashion executive Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo, 42, worked with designers Carrier and Company to remodel the apartment, according to Sotheby’s International Realty, which calls the unit “the crown jewel of the legendary Osborne Apartments.”

Past residents of 4B include American conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein. Bernstein wrote the music for “West Side Story while living there with his family in the 1950s, according to the Wall Street Journal. Chastain bought the unit for $5.1 million in 2015 from composer Adam Guettel.

Chastain attended El Camino High School and Sacramento City College before her acting career took off. She graduated from the Juilliard School in New York City.

Cathy Taub and Ellen Kapit of Sotheby’s International Realty-Downtown Manhattan Brokerage are the listing agents.
