Aisha Hinds' husband, Nigel Walker, predicted their marriage when they were teenagers
Aisha Hinds and her husband, Nigel Walker, have a history.
Hinds, who stars as firefighter paramedic Henrietta “Hen” Wilson in Fox’s drama 9-1-1, had known Walker for decades before they reconnected in 2019 and started dating. The following year, the couple announced their relationship on social media after his surprise proposal.
Since their engagement news, Hinds and Walker have shared memories and sentiments about their relationship on social media, including when they married in May 2022.
In honor of their first wedding anniversary, he shared a "love note" for Hinds, expressing his happiness about spending the rest of his life with her.
“There’s sooooo much strength in being loved by the right person,” Walker wrote on Instagram to celebrate the milestone. “It channels a positive energy to your mind, body and soul. Your happiness transforms to joy. The unfathomable becomes a reality. And there’s an unspeakable peace that resides in your heart.”
So who is Aisha Hinds’ husband? Here’s everything to know about Nigel Walker and his relationship with the actress.
Hinds met Walker through her best friend in 1992
According to their interview with Munaluchi Bride in 2022, Hinds said they met as teenagers through her best friend Jalene, who is Walker’s cousin. The True Blood star recalled Walker making an interesting quip when they first crossed paths in 1992, which eventually became a reality.
“While walking with Jalene down Church Avenue in Brooklyn, we passed Nigel standing in front of his mom’s salon," she said. "As they approached, he exclaimed to Jalene (while looking at me) ‘Oh you brought me my wife!’ "
Hinds continued, "We made a connection that day and exchanged phone numbers, but it would be decades later before that testament became truth.”
She described how they reunited in 2019 and dated throughout the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although they were now older, the sparks between them felt familiar.
"We fell in love as if we’d just met, and a teenage love ensued," she told the publication.
They were in a long-distance relationship
When they started dating, Hinds lived in Los Angeles, and Walker was based in Brooklyn, New York.
Hinds told Munaluchi Bride that long distance was “initially perceived as a huge obstacle,” but having strong communication skills helped them work through it, which involved "thoughtfulness, transparency, vulnerability [and] sacrifice."
Hinds and Walker also committed themselves to seeing each other whenever possible.
“We had been nurturing and nourishing our long distance relationship by flying back and forth to see one another monthly,” she explained. “We were able to spend New Year’s Eve 2019 in Grenada and had a magical time crossing into the year 2020.”
Walker worked at a hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic
In the same interview, Hinds talked about how Walker worked in healthcare during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, she didn't elaborate on details about his specific role or experience in the medical field.
“He worked as an essential at Mount Sinai Hospital, and spent more days than he ever imagined witnessing the guttural grief of individuals adversely affected by the pandemic,” she said.
The Dollhouse star also revealed that the historic moment influenced how he viewed their relationship.
"Those following months birthed a depth of connection between us that would later confirm Nigel’s decision to propose as soon as possible," Hinds told the outlet. "Time had become precious than ever, and he didn’t want to waste any more time."
Walker knew Hinds was “the one” after a trip to Grenada
The “magical” trip to Grenada Hinds mentioned in the interview was the trip that confirmed to Walker that he was ready to propose.
“I knew I wanted Aisha to be my wife after our trip to Grenada in 2020,” Walker said in the Munaluchi Bride interview. “We had a breakthrough conversation that represented a growth in our lives as individuals and gave me the confidence that we could be great as a unit.”
Walker proposed on the rooftop of the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills
Walker got down on one knee during a stay at the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills, California. Hinds had worked at the Waldorf in New York City and always dreamed of being a guest there. To top it off, Walker surprised her with a proposal on her birthday: Nov. 13.
“I had NOOOOOO idea he was going to propose to me on my birthday,” she told Munaluchi Bride, revealing that they hadn't had conversations about a ring style and proposal ideas. The actress also shared that she didn't notice he was planning anything.
Hinds continued, "I imagined ... that I would have been able to pick up some shifts in his behavior and temperament once that time came around to taking the relationship to a different depth. Nothing. He gave me no clues.”
A few days later, she revealed the news on social media with a photo of them embracing, and her engagement ring was spotted. "❤️🙏🏾💍 Yes....," she captioned her post on Instagram.
They married in Grenada in May 2022
Hinds and Walker wed on May 21, 2022, and the couple hosted a five-day-long celebration with 170 guests in Grenada.
The location was a tribute to Hinds’ upbringing since her parents are Grenadian.
To celebrate their first wedding anniversary, Hinds posted a video showing a behind-the-scenes look at their wedding.
“The outcome of this effort blew our minds,” she wrote in the caption. “It was unquestionably the hard working and heart working hands of truly amazing people and professionals that ensured it was executed with excellence.”
Walker’s brother is fashion design Andre Walker
Walker’s brother Andre is a renowned fashion designer who once served as a consultant to Marc Jacobs and Kim Jones of Fendi.
In February 2021, Andre designed a “polymorphous mask/scarf,” and Hinds posted a selfie with Walker while she wore the piece.
“Heart swell thanks to Sir Nigel S Walker ( @silkyvalente ) & his brilliant brother Sir Andre Walker ( @and_re_walker ) of the tribe of Lord Barrington & Lady Shirley Walker for blessing me with this incredible peace...and piece,” she wrote in the caption.
