AJ and Curtis Pritchard open up on "GCSE grade quality" Hollyoaks stint

AJ and Curtis Pritchard have looked back on their widely-panned Hollyoaks appearance, joking the door might still be open for a return.

The infamous "How's Trish?" scene first graced our screens in 2021 when the two brothers briefly starred as twins Marco and Jacob, determined to sabotage Denise Welch's dance teacher Trish Minniver.

Revealing some behind-the-scenes secrets about their cameo on podcast Straight To The Comments!, AJ and Curtis admitted having no formal acting training prior to their soap debut as well as being impressed with how fast-paced the Hollyoaks set was.

"They just said there's a dancing role in Hollyoaks and we need somebody that's going to come and steal Trish's dance school, basically," Curtis said, with AJ explaining: "I've never been on a soap and I actually did watch Hollyoaks when I was younger. I've never understood soap stories changing so quickly. Now I understand it."

AJ continued: "We went on, we had a whole script that we'd learnt… then they went, 'Okay, we're going to change every scene.' I was like, how can you have a storybook that changes fluidly as you move? It was hilarious. I loved it."

Curtis agreed with most of the negative comments, branding his and his brother's acting "GCSE grade quality"

"But our acting on that was GCSE grade quality... We were ultimately thrown into the deep end, that bad," he said.

On the bright side, it seems that the hilariously bad performances given by the two reality TV stars earned the Channel 4 series a lot of traction.

"The show said it got more press for Hollyoaks than they've ever had before," Curtis added.

"We were like, 'Well, thank you. You can have us back on when you want. You haven't killed us off.'"

Can Marco and Jacob make a surprise comeback to the village? Here's hoping they'll have a dance off with Trish, who has since left the soap, if they do return.

Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4 each weekday at 7.30pm. Episodes then air on E4 the following day, before getting their YouTube premiere a week after that.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
