Community Club
The Alhambra Community Club may have a smaller membership, but they manage to make a difference in the community.
Three Alhambra graduates will receive $500 scholarships from the club.
Brooke Hunsche is the daughter of Todd and Jennifer Hunsche. Brooke will attend the University of Oklahoma, studying to be an orthodontist.
Lauren Brannon is the daughter of Brett and Becky Brannon. She will attend Greenville College and study to be an accountant.
Blase Kurwicki’s parents are Rick and Mandy Kurwicki. Blase will attend Southern Illinois University to study Exercise, Science and Business Administration.
Exhale Car Wash
The Salem Church youth group “Exhale” will hold a car wash Tuesday, June 25, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., behind the bank building.
Donations will go towards the Exhale Mission Trip.
Alhambra Homecoming/175th Anniversary
The Village of Alhambra will have a joint celebration with the annual homecoming, incorporating the 175th anniversary of the settling of Alhambra.
Festivities take place Aug. 2-4.
There will be parades Friday and Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Other activities will include a bounce house, model train show, tractors on display with a tractor drive at 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. on Saturday and a pedal tractor pull at 1 p.m. There will also be a gun raffle, basket raffles, good food, beer and soda.
The Dance Hall will have a Museum of the history of Alhambra complete with pictures.
There will be old-fashioned games to play, commemorative souvenirs for purchase, a fashion show for those entering to dress in any era from 1849-1999.
Music will be on hand all three days with Cheers Band on Friday night and Exit 36 and Jessie G on Saturday. Sunday nights band will be announced at a later date.
Grass and Property Ordinance
It is an ordinance within the village of Alhambra that all premises and exterior property shall be maintained free from weeds or growth in excess of ten (10) inches. All noxious weeds are prohibited.
Property must be free from any accumulation of rubbish or garbage. Disposal shall be done in a clean and sanitary manner by placing the rubbish in approved containers.
Mosquitoes
Mosquitoes need five days to hatch in still water. Help eliminate breeding sites by contacting the village at 618-488-3505 for larvicide or more information.
