It's been 20 years since Ally McBeal was last inside a courtroom, but a sequel series is reportedly in the works - and it could star Calista Flockhart.

Now, a sequel is apparently in early development at ABC according to Deadline, although its lead character will be somebody different.
Apparently, the new main character is set to be the daughter of Ally's roommate Renee Raddick (Lisa Nicole Carson), but Flockhart, 57, is said to have been approached to pick up her old role as a supporting character.
In the original series, Ally was a young lawyer who had joined the firm of her old law school classmate and found herself working with her ex-boyfriend, who was married to a lawyer at a rival firm.
The show's other stars included Jane Krakowski, Lucy Liu, Portia de Rossi, Robert Downey Jr, Taye Diggs, Peter MacNicol, Greg Germann and the late Anne Heche.
It isn't yet known whether any of the other former cast have been approached for a return.

The series won a number of Emmys during its five-season run and has reportedly been eyed for a sequel or reboot for years.
Since the show's end, Flockhart has starred in TV series Brothers & Sisters and Supergirl, and will feature in the 2023 series Feud: Bette and Joan.
The Ryan Murphy series tells the story of famous feuds, including the rivalry between Bette Davis, played by Susan Sarandon, and Joan Crawford, played by Jessica Lange.
