Five missing children that were the subject of a province-wide Amber Alert on Tuesday have now been found safe, Niagara Regional Police announced.

On Tuesday, police said that five-year-old Evalyn, 10-year-old Mattias, 11-year-old Sovereign, 13-year-old Eska, and 14-year-old Magnus MacDermid were taken from their residence by their father, Ian MacDermid, sometime between Sept. 19 and Sept. 25.

Police said in an update Wednesday afternoon that investigators were led to a rental cottage in Ridgeway, in Lake Erie, Ont. Officers said the children, who range between five and 14 years old, were found inside safe.

“The children appear to be in good health and are currently being cared for,” police said in a statement.

The drama unfolded Tuesday afternoon when the alert was raised, with police alleging were taken by their father from their family home in Jordan, Ont.

The alert expired Tuesday night with the whereabouts of the children still unknown.

But, at around 3 p.m. Wednesday, Niagara Police say they located the children who were all safe.

Detectives thanked the community for their assistance in bringing this to a peaceful and safe resolution.
