‘American Idol’ journey comes to an end for Conway SC resident Mariah Faith

A Conway resident’s “American Idol” journey ended Monday night when she failed to make the reality show’s top 12.

Mariah Faith made the top 20 during Sunday’s night performance, but America’s votes weren’t enough to send her on in the TV competition.

The 22-year-old sang Monday night for a chance to be one of the final two judge’s picks, but ultimately wasn’t chosen for the slots.

Faith sang “If It Hadn’t Been For Love” by The SteelDrivers. When asked what she wanted to showcase with her song, Faith said, “You know Chris Stapleton, the SteelDrivers, when I make music, that’s what I want it to sound like. So I wanted to come out here and give ya’ll what I want to be.”

Faith’s grandparents were in the audience watching her perform in Hollywood.

The hairstylist and Carolina Forest High School graduate’s voice is a mix of country and soul, which landed her a golden ticket from the judges during her March 19 Nashville audition.

She won hearts when she talked about her stepfather, Brian Cornwell, who recognized her talent and was her biggest inspiration. He passed away Faith’s senior year in 2019.

Faith talks openly about how her father’s death sent her down a path of substance abuse. She is on a sober journey now, Faith said in an earlier interview, “I’m a year sober,” she said.
