Vote: Do you think Canada could thrive without the U.S.?

Leaders from Canada, the U.S. and Mexico are currently overseeing the seventh round of NAFTA negotiations, but that didn’t stop U.S. President Donald Trump from lashing out at his NAFTA allies.

In a series of tweets this morning, the leader expressed concerns with Canada’s treatment of U.S. farmers, saying that Canadians needed to treat them better.

The tweets also say that Canada would be exempt from from recently announced new tariffs if a “new and fair” North American Free Trade Agreement is signed. The tariffs, which would be on steel and aluminum imports, received huge backlash from Canada with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau calling them “absolutely unacceptable.”

Given that our relationship with our neighbour south of the border is currently prickly, we want to know: Do you think Canada could thrive without the U.S.? We’re talking everything from culturally to financially? Why or why not? Vote in our poll and tell us in the comments below.
