‘Andor’ Season 2 Finally Has a Release Date Disney+

The future of Star Wars feels brighter this morning. Deadpool & Wolverine executive producer Simon Kinberg will helm the galaxy far, far away's next film trilogy. Oh, and Skeleton Crew's elephant kid is just a month away from appearing on our screens. Plus there's the reason you're here: The science-fiction franchise's best series (sorry, Grogu) finally has a release date. Andor season 2 premieres on April 22, 2025—and you can even catch a glimpse in a new Disney sizzle reel below.

The "stakes are greater" this time around, according to Andor star Diego Luna, as Cassian prepares to lead a resistance against the Empire. Season 2 will also smuggle in some precious new cargo. Ben Mendelsohn reprises his role as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story villain Orson Krennic, alongside Alan Tudyk as droid K-2SO and Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera.

For many Star Wars fans, Andor's first season represented a compelling and human story about the franchise's galactic resistance movement. Where the films were complicated and massive in scope, Cassian Andor's story was much more scaled down. Audiences could also see the proof in viewership numbers compared with those of other Star Wars series. The show was quickly green-lit for another 12-episode season before the premiere even aired. Now we're finally closer to season 2's debut.

What Could Happen in Andor Season 2?

Andor season 2 picks up as Cassian gathers the first makings of the rebellion alliance. According to Luna, "This second part will follow Cassian over the period of four years as he grows into the hero we see make the ultimate sacrifice in Rogue One." Though Andor is an origin story for his character, the plot takes place smack-dab in the middle of Star Wars lore. The events of Andor lead directly into the Rogue One prequel film, which takes place before the events of the original Star Wars film. In Rogue One, Cassian's team is instrumental in acquiring the Death Star plans that eventually get uploaded to R2-D2.

According to Kyle Soller, who plays Deputy Inspector Syril Karn, Disney is "turning it up to 11" for season 2. "There's just more people, more planets, more worlds," he told Esquire. "There's an amazing storyline about this new group of people." Andor has already taken us to many worlds across the galaxy, including the free trade city of Ferrix, Cassian's home on Kenari, the astrological heist location of Aldhani, the galactic senate on Coruscant, and the prison complex on Narkina 5.

Season 2 promises even more locations and interesting characters, introduced after a time jump that places the series right before the events of Rogue One. "What's amazing about dropping back in for this season is the time gaps that are going to be instituted to take you up the full five years before coming into Rogue One at the end," Soller revealed. "So there's huge amounts of growth that's happening within the world of Andor, but also in Syril's world... and his tailoring." (The last bit, about the tailoring, is a joke. We think.)

Who Will Return for Andor Season 2?

Aside from Cassian Andor (Luna) and Soller's Syril Karn, early rebellion heroes Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona) and Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård) still have more of their stories to share. As does Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly) and Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker), who both originally appeared in Rogue One alongside Andor. They're joined by Tudyk's K-2SO, as well as undercover rebel Rael.

When Will Andor Season 2 Debut?

Although Andor creator Tony Gilroy originally announced at a Star Wars Celebration event in London that the show’s second and final season would debut in August 2024, several factors pushed the release back. With a month left of filming in July 2023, SAG-AFTRA voted to begin a historic strike that lasted until November. Andor season 2 will now debut on April 22, 2025.

Gilroy also revealed last year that season 2 will mark the end for Andor, as his journey comes to an end once his story connects back to Rogue One. He stated that ending after season 2 was "a decision born of survival, but it’s been creatively potent.... It’s good to know there’s an ending coming.”

Until then, don't think Disney is pumping the brakes on Star Wars content hitting our screens. Fans are still eagerly awaiting the Mandalorian & Grogu movie, Skeleton Crew, and whatever follows the Rosario Dawson–led Ahsoka series. As Star Wars's real-life cinematic universe expands, so does the galaxy far, far away.
