Annual 6 County All Star Basketball Classic returns to MJC this Saturday

After a successful return from a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2022, the 6 County All-Star Basketball Classic returns this Saturday, April 29, for its 26th edition.

The classic will return to Modesto Junior College and like previous years features a girls game, boys game, three-point contest and slam-dunk contest.

Participants practiced at Davis High School on Tuesday and Wednesday and will have dinner with their families at Redwood Cafe Thursday evening, where they will welcome women’s basketball coach Rachel Finnegan as a guest speaker. They will have Friday off before playing in the game Saturday evening.

“We’re really happy that we’re coming back there,” said game director Bobby Cole. “It gives the kids a feel of what a college campus is like and ... the chance to be able to play at a college gym.”

Doors will open at 4:30 and the girls game is scheduled to start at 5:15, with the boys game slated for 7:30. The three-point and slam-dunk competitions will take place between the games.

General admission tickets will be available at the door for $12. Seniors 65 and older are $10, K-12 students are $8 and youth players K-8 wearing their basketball jerseys are $5.

The game will feature representatives from multiple section championship finalists, playoff teams, boys and girls Modesto Bee All District honorees and league champions.

“We’re really happy the game is back,” Cole said. “Seeing the kids at our first practice, it was good to see how they respect the game.”

The 6 County All Star Basketball Game is Saturday, April 29. The night will feature girls and boys basketball games, a three point shooting contest and a slam dunk contest.
