Anonymous hacks MIT websites over Reditt co-founder Aaron Swartz's suicide

London, Jan. 15 (ANI): 'Hacktivist' group Anonymous has attacked websites run by the Massachsetts Institute of Technology. The move came after the suicide of Aaron Swartz, a free information activist who was due to face trial for the theft of academic papers from the university. Swartz's family have criticised the university for pursuing the case. The 26-year-old was found hanged at his New York apartment on Friday, the Telegraph reports. According to the report, hackers claiming affiliation with Anonymous, a loose-knit group of internet activists, defaced pages on MIT websites, and called the case against Swartz 'a grotesque miscarriage of justice'. The message, labelled 'in memoriam', was posted on at least two hacked MIT web pages, but the hackers said they did not 'consign blame or responsibility upon MIT for what has happened', the report said. Swartz, who suffered from depression, was found dead at his apartment in New York after committing suicide. In 2011, he had been charged with offences, including computer fraud and wire fraud, after allegedly stealing millions of scientific journals from a digital archive at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and planning to make them freely available online, the report added.
