Brendan Hunt reveals 'Ted Lasso' stars will 'go our separate ways' after Season 3
"We’re going to let this thing land, we're all going to go our separate ways for a little bit," executive producer, writer and actor in the Apple TV+ hit says
While we’re waiting for Season 3 of Jason Sudeikis’ famed Apple TV+ show Ted Lasso (premiering March 15) there is still a big question mark about how long the series will last, specifically if this will be the last season.
Sudeikis, executive producer and star of the show, has been very open in the past that there was always a three-season plan for the show.
"This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell," he told Deadline.
When asked about potential spinoffs Sudeikis, added that the show has "set the table" to "watch the further telling of these stories."
In advance of the Season 3 premiere, Ted Lasso star, executive producer and writer, Brendan Hunt, said “everything is on the table,” but after this season is released they will all go their “separate ways.”
“Everything is on the table,” Hunt told Yahoo Canada. “I can also say, we're not going to decide anytime soon.”
“We’re going to let this thing land, we're all going to go our separate ways for a little bit. We're going to reintroduce ourselves to the local institutions of our neighbourhoods and communities that we have been so neglectful of these past few years. After that all settled down, then we'll come back together and we'll figure out what's going to happen next, if anything.”
What is Season 3 of ‘Ted Lasso’ about?
Setting to stage for Season 3 of Ted Lasso, the show's title character is facing a professional challenge. Now that AFC Richmond is part of the Premiere League, the team has to try to stay there. Richmond is expected to finish last in the league but the team, under Rebecca’s (Hannah Waddingham) leadership, is determined to make a good showing. How do they expect to do that? They go after one of soccer’s top, international stars.
Outside of Richmond, we also find out what is going on with Nate (Nick Mohammed). In the show's masterful Season 2 finale, Nate essentially moved to the dark side, believing that he deserves more responsibility and respect than he's being given at Richmond.
Nate (still sporting the grey hair) is now the new manager for West Ham, working for Rebecca’s ex-husband Rupert (Anthony Head). Being called the "wonder kid" after the use of his False Nine strategy with Richmond, the beginning of the series shows Nate navigating this new territory, often using cruelty to mask his insecurities.
Keeley (Juno Temple) has started her own PR company, but she still spends a lot of time with Rebecca and AFC Richmond. While we may have been proud of Keely’s success, she’s having trouble balancing this new amount of responsibility, and it impacts her relationship with Roy (Brett Goldstein).
Is ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 3 worth watching?
From the three episodes made available to press in advance of the Season 3 premiere, Ted Lasso continues to be as lovable as ever.
It’s particularly odd for a series to be as charming in Season 3 as it was in Season 1, but the show’s commitment to developing these characters leads the charge. There are moments with characters we barely knew anything about in the first season that we feel emotionally connected to by the time we get to Season 3, and that’s a beautiful thing.
Yes, it’s different from the past two seasons, but it has to be to keep moving. There’s a deep rooted honesty to the show, with incredibly touching moments and, likely more importantly, some of the funniest jokes and one-liners you’ll hear on TV right now.
Nate’s shift to the sort of “dark side” is handled so well off the top we can’t wait to see where it goes, and of course, the friendship between Keeley and Rebecca continues to be a highlight, as we get even more of it in Season 3.
Not only is Ted Lasso worth continuing for Season 3, but it’s a must as we wait on the edge of our seats to see how it ends, in case this ends up being our last goodbye.
