Ariel Roblin: Northern California's AAPI community has made a big impact
Sacramento has been nationally recognized as one of the most diverse communities in the United States. We are fortunate to be one of the top 10 Asian markets in the country, with nearly a third of our nation's Asians calling our state home. These communities are incredibly diverse, with roots in more than 20 countries in east Asia, southeast Asia, and the Indian subcontinent; each with unique histories, languages, and cultures. After the fall of Saigon, thousands of Vietnamese sought refuge here. Sacramento is also home to one of the largest Hmong populations in the state. Sikh Californians have been farming our Central Valley for nearly a century, and more recently brought a wave of technology and entrepreneurs.
