Arrest made in connection with fatal Main Street shooting

Toronto police say they have made an arrest in connection with the fatal shooting of Cory Campbell, who was found suffering from a gunshot wound late Saturday night.

A Toronto man has been charged with first-degree murder after a man was shot dead in the city’s east end on Saturday night.

Toronto police were called to the scene of a shooting at 11 Main St., near Kingston Road, at approximately 11:15 p.m. Saturday.

A 26-year-old Toronto man was found in a fifth-floor hallway, suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was taken to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Late Monday evening, police issued a news release identifying the victim as Cory Campbell.

A post-mortem examination determined that Campbell died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

Police arrested a male suspect in connection with Campbell’s killing on Monday.

Andrew Burnett, 25, of Toronto, is charged with first-degree murder. He is due to appear in a Toronto court on Tuesday.

Police say a second person “remains outstanding.”
