Arthur Bryant’s Barbeque closes to fix ongoing building issues after recent storms

A popular Kansas City barbeque restaurant announced it would temporarily close to resolve ongoing maintenance issues at its building after recent storms.

Arthur Bryant’s Barbeque, 1727 Brooklyn Avenue, shared on social media Friday afternoon that it would close to address ongoing building problems. Due to recent storms, heavy rainfall led to flooding and plumbing issues, the restaurant said.

“Unfortunately, as a result, we will be closed for the next few days as we work diligently with the city to remedy them,” the restaurant wrote on its X account, formerly Twitter. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”

The issues caused by storm water created new problems and exacerbated others which required immediate attention, the restaurant said in its post.

Located in Kansas City’s 18th and Vine Jazz District, Arthur Bryant’s has been a staple in the city’s barbeque repertoire dating to the early 1900s.

Since its inception, the restaurant has hosted its share of celebrities, including Steven Spielberg, Michael Landon, Robert Redford, Jack Nicholson, Wilt Chamberlain and Bryant Gumbel.

Former presidents Barack Obama, Harry Truman and Jimmy Carter also got their fix of Kansas City barbeque at Arthur Bryant’s.
