Attempted murder charge laid in Windsor shooting, firearm found by police

A Windsor man is facing attempted murder and several other charges after a shooting outside of a pharmacy on Tecumseh Road East.

Officers were called to McGaffey Pharmacy near the corner of George Street and Tecumseh Road about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday for reports of a fight. Police were told one of the people involved may have been shot.

A 35-year-old man was found at the scene with a gunshot wound and transported to hospital, but is expected to survive.

He told police he met another man "by chance" at the pharmacy and they "exchanged words over a longstanding dispute," said Sgt. Steve Betteridge in a media release.

This led to the men fighting outside, where one of the men pulled a gun and shot the other, said police.

A 42-year-old man matching the description of the alleged shooter was found nearby with minor injuries and arrested.

Betteridge said the suspect was carrying a small amount of suspected meth and a knife when he was taken into custody.

Police found a loaded gun believed to have been used in the attack in a nearby truck.

The 42-year-old is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of a prohibited weapon, breach of probation, possession of a restricted firearm without a license and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
