Chase McNary's Colorado mountaintop wedding with now-wife Ellie McNary (née White) proved to be an unforgettable occasion for the couple.

They were surrounded by many of their loved ones, but some important people connected to the pair were absent from the occasion.

The Bachelor Nation personality told PEOPLE exclusively ahead of their ceremony that "neither of our dads will be participating."

"I actually haven't talked to my dad since Hometown's episode on The Bachelor [franchise], which is kind of wild," he admitted.

The moment in question involved Chase having then-Bachelorette JoJo Fletcher meet with his divorced parents separately, beginning with his father. Although the trio's meeting appeared to go smoothly, the father-son pair disagreed over the possibility of Chase getting heartbroken if JoJo didn't pick him. Chase insisted his feelings for the season 12 lead were real and wasn't interested in his father's opinion. (JoJo wound up picking, and later marrying, Jordan Rodgers.)

"That whole thing didn't sit well with our relationship and how it went," Chase explained to PEOPLE. "So, he's kind of chosen that way. I've chosen this way and we're okay with that at this point."

Chase and Ellie tied the knot at the Arapahoe Basin's mid-mountain lodge in Dillon, Colorado on July 6. Of the pair's journey down the aisle, the Bachelor in Paradise alum said: "Ellie's brother is walking her down the aisle, which is kind of cool. So he's going to be kind of that support figure. He's amazing. And then, I'll be walking down with my mom."

The ceremony proved to be a "super fun" gathering for all in attendance.

"We wanted to get married at the venue, so the mountaintop was kind of the most important part for us. We're going [to be] at 11,500 feet, so we're kind of just basing everything off of love reaching new heights," Chase shared.

"It's kind of our theme for our wedding. So, 11,500 feet, love reaching new heights is kind of like our tagline on everything," he continued. "And then, not being a stiff formal wedding, because that's just not us. We're doing super lax, super fun, casual and also, just a full weekend with the people that we love."

Looking to the future, Chase's wife Ellie — founder of the designer hat brand Mill & Habs — consider growth as the most important thing for the newlyweds.

"I think that can apply to a lot of things. I think growth and our love, growth in our number of family members in our household, growth financially," she explained. "We have a bunch of goals that we want to hit and we're both very, very driven individuals. So I think that this next chapter is growth."

As for McNary, he added: "I just want to continue to do better and better so that Ellie has a better and better life."
