Batsheva Hay, Alex Eagle, and More Style-Savvy Moms Share Their Mother’s Day Gift Wish Lists
As lockdowns and travel restrictions separate many of us from our moms this Mother’s Day, what better way to show your love from afar than with a carefully chosen gift sure to delight even the most discerning of matriarchs? “Mothers love something classic that they can keep forever,” says Alex Eagle, the London-based authority on all things chic.
With this in mind, Eagle, Batsheva Hay, and more style-savvy moms from across the globe reveal the presents they’re lusting after this May 10, from thoughtful tokens to decadent splurges, below.

I am excited to wear my new apron, one of a few that I made as part of a small home capsule collection using vintage fabrics. I have always loved the idea of an old-fashioned apron to throw on in the kitchen.

The River Café in London is a really special restaurant we’ve been going to for years as a family. It is in between where my mother and I live, right on the river, so it’s perfect for a walk after lunch. Both the setting and food are exquisite and they are even doing home deliveries until they can open their doors again to the public.

Something practical but beautiful like a Smythson diary or notepad is a great idea. You can add monogramming, such as initials and dates, which makes it feel super luxurious. Mothers love something classic that they can keep forever and you can make a tradition of buying them over the years.

This art print is a poem by my husband, Robert Montgomery, thanking our health care workers at the NHS and fundraising for the Intensive Care Society. The posters are currently all around London. When he says “a tender percussion orchestra” he is talking about the round of applause we give every Thursday for our health care workers.

I have a bath both morning and night. It is sort of a ritual I have to do to slow down my mind and rebalance myself in the world. Lavender is one of my favorite essential oils; I find it the most peaceful scent. This product makes me think about being in the hills of France.
L’Occitane Lavender Harvest Foaming Bath

I love these Old Hollywood glamour lace gloves by the Vampire’s Wife. They remind me of dressing up when I was little in my mother’s wardrobe and pretending to be grown up, in her pearls and lipstick.

Supporting local and small businesses during this time is very important if possible, so a selection of organic wine from Loup Bar [in Mexico City] would be delightful to enjoy during the almost-summer evenings with a French Madagascan market dress from Line Sander.

Starting from 1970, M. Saint Laurent would send out his New Year wishes in a poster form to his friends, collaborators, and clients. Each year features a unique color palette and design…and of course, the word love.

I would love a facial with Hervé Herau when confinement is lifted. Hervé believes great skin comes from the gut, so he performs a really intense stomach massage that unlocks all the tension and stress that is reflected on our skin. It’s painful but it works! After a session with him my skin is glowing for weeks.
I’ve been spending a lot of time in the garden during this confinement and have a newfound appreciation for flowers. No one photographed them better than Irving Penn for Vogue. His 1980 Flowers book is a collection of the photographs he did for Vogue over seven years, starting in 1967, each year dedicating himself to a different flower (lily, poppy, orchid, tulip, begonia, rose, and peony).
