The BBC has confirmed the cast for a new drama tentatively titled We Go Again, which comes from the producers of Ackley Bridge.

The new BBC Three series, written by playwright Janice Okoh, is based on her 2011 play Three Birds, and focuses on three siblings in the Midlands who harbour a dark secret.

However, when their mother disappears, they desperately try to keep it quiet and remain loyal while trying to outwit the authorities.

Described as "an irreverent portrait of black working-class teenage life" and "a coming-of-age story of sorts", the series will explore "the first times, the f**k-ups, and the excruciating desire to be more grown up than you’re ready to be".

"It’s a celebration of black joy, of council estates, and corner shops. Of working-class living and working-class dreams. It is human and tender, with a thumping great heart," the synopsis adds.

The show, which is filming now, comes from Ackley Bridge producers The Forge Entertainment, and will feature newcomers Chenée Taylor, Kaydrah Walker-Wilkie and Akins Subair as the three siblings Tiana, Tanika and Tionne.

We Go Again will also star Hollyoaks' Jamelia and Jennifer Metcalfe respectively as 'Fake Jackie', a version of their missing mother, and Candy – the new partner of their distant father Leo (played by Lockwood and Co's Ivanno Jeremiah).

Also on board are Scoop's Romola Garai as Ms Jenkins, Tanika's schoolteacher, Back to Black's Sam Buchanan as amateur drug dealer Dr Feelgood, and The Full Monty's Talitha Wing as aspiring influencer Rome.

“I am over the moon to be adapting my stage play with the BBC and The Forge," Okoh said. "It's been a joy to see the project grow and change but still keep the story of these three wonderful kids home alone and how they handle the adults around them at its heart.

"As soon as I saw Chenée I knew she was my Tiana, a beautiful young adult with an inner strength that shines through. Kaydrah and Akins are phenomenal, too – so naturalistic and funny. I feel lucky we found them.

"I'm so excited about the rest of the cast joining them – Romola, Sam, Ivanno, Jamelia and Jennifer – and can't wait for the world to meet the characters they portray.”

We Go Again is set for release in 2025 on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer.
