Benny Blanco and Selena Gomez aren't shy about showing off their relationship on social media, but the producer is opening up about the moment he knew that he was in love—and surprisingly, just about everyone knew before he did. In a new interview with The Wall Street Journal, Blanco explained that while they both appeared in his 2019 music video for "I Can’t Get Enough," the fact that he was wearing a huge teddy bear costume may have kept the two from really connecting. Instead, he explained, "he realized his interest in Gomez during a recording session."

"I was the last one to know," he shared. "It's crazy how your partner could just be sitting there the whole time, right in front of your eyes, and you don't even notice, and then you have that Clueless moment where you’re like, 'Wait, I’m in love.'"

The two officially started dating in June of 2023. Since then, they've blessed fans with photos of them in the kitchen and sitting courtside. It's the stuff of celebrity relationship dreams.

For critics who think that Blanco's signature ear-to-ear smile may be a little too much, the producer explained that it's a defense mechanism.

“I’m really good at turning it on for the camera if I have to,” he said. “When I have to talk about myself, I feel strange.”

The over-the-top friendly façade is genuine, however, as he noted that he believes that his "ability to make someone feel comfortable" is his greatest asset.

Gomez, whose show Selena + Chef streamed on Max before debuting a special on Food Network, isn't the only one showing off her culinary chops. Blanco is set to release a cookbook, Open Wide: A Cookbook for Friends, on Apr. 30. He toldWSJ that his connection to food runs deep and that one of his most memorable meals involved Gomez making her signature corn casserole and his cornbread with honey butter.

“I like shit that looks hard, but it’s actually really easy,” he said. “I just love entertaining and pleasing people. Doesn’t everyone want to be cared for, whether it’s your friend or a lover or your family? Doesn’t it feel good when someone makes you something?”
