Who was the best girls athlete on the Coast for the week of November 13? Vote now.

The winter sports season is officially upon us on the Coast. Basketball and soccer are under way and some of South Mississippi’s top athletes are already showing out.

Through at least the end of the calendar year, the Sun Herald will be running a separate Athlete of the Week poll to highlight the many girls dominating their sport around the region.

This is not a scientific poll, and you can vote as many times as you’d like until voting ends at noon Monday, Nov. 20, at sunherald.com.

If you would like to nominate a candidate for the next poll, send in game or match stats to swatkins@sunherald.com. Stats must be from an event that occurred within seven days prior to next Monday’s poll.

  • Zaniya Johnson, Biloxi basketball: Johnson recorded two 20-point games, dropping 21 in a win over Magee and then 20 in a win over Northwest Rankin.

  • Teairra Lee, St. Martin basketball: Lee filled the stat line in a win over Forrest County AHS with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals.

  • Tameah Bester, Poplarville basketball: The senior scored 18 points in a 40-point win over Sacred Heart.

  • Linda Mustered and Isabella Jordan, St. Patrick soccer: Mustered and Jordan had four goal and two assists each over three wins against Gulfport, Moss Point and Picayune.

  • Addison Locklear, Vancleave soccer: Locklear scored three goals across wins against Resurrection and Forrest County AHS.
