BET Teamed Up With Beautycon to Make This Year's Event More Inclusive

BET is partnering with Beautycon to create makeup and hair tutorials for Black consumers, with Black influencers like Zendaya and Laverne Cox taking over the main stage.

People may be gearing up for Coachella Weekend two in Palm Springs, but true beauty enthusiasts know that NYC's Beautycon — which is literally a convention dedicated to all things beauty — is where it's at this weekend. And thanks to a new partnership between the convention and BET Digital, this year's event is more inclusive than ever before.

According to a press release shared with Teen Vogue, BET has partnered with Beautycon to produce makeup and hair tutorials for Black women and women of color. The videos will feature Black influencers of varying hair textures and skin tones and will show off some of the latest hair and makeup trends, teaching viewers how to DIY the looks at home. On Saturday, some of these influencers will even be taking over the Beautycon main stage to deliver some tutorials IRL.

Some of the videos are already online, including one featuring rapper Fabolous' step-daughter, Taina Williams, showing off how to get a "sunset eye". Another video offers tips for protective hair styles that minimize the stress of environmental factors on natural hair.

“Our mission at Beautycon is to make sure we are always representing our audience, mirroring back to them what they bring to us in support, meaningful connection, and community," said Beautycon CEO Moj Mahdara in a statement. "This partnership with BET Digital is another way for us to act on our commitment to representation and using our platforms to tell these diverse stories in the beauty space, and we are thrilled to be working with them.”

To see Beautycon — one of the largest beauty events in the country — becoming more inclusive is an inspiring indicator for the rest of the industry. Beautycon goers will also hear from black voices in beauty like Zendaya, Laverne Cox, and Essence Grant at the event, which takes place on April 21-22 in New York City. You don't want to miss a single moment.
