'Republic of Doyle' to end after season 6
Jake Doyle wants to make it clear that he was not given the boot.
Thursday morning, the official Twitter account of "Republic of Doyle" confirmed that the CBC show's upcoming sixth season will be its last. But star Allan Hawco (who co-created the dramedy and plays its eponymous Newfoundland P.I.) has clarified that the show was not cancelled.
That's right Republic family-- the upcoming season will the our last, but it will be the BEST season yet! #doyletweets #republicforever

Production has already started on the last season of the CBC series and, according to The Huffington Post, this season will air only ten episodes (down from 16 in season 5). Shooting reportedly wraps in St. John's in September and the sixth season will air in the fall.
"Republic of Doyle" debuted in 2010 and revolves around a family of private investigators. Initially popular with Canadian viewers, its ratings held steady for the first two years, but they had started depleting over the past few seasons.
In February, Hawco hinted that the end was nigh.
“Our plan all along was not to keep doing it just for the sake of doing it. We don’t want to drain of it of life. I don’t want it to leave a bad taste in people’s mouths," he told Canada.com. “This was my first real shot. It became everything I wanted it to become. There’s no reason for us to overstay our welcome.”
