AUGH! Charlie Brown actor arrested on stalking charges

Good grief!

Peter Robbins, the actor who gave voice to beloved cartoon staple Charlie Brown in numerous Peanuts episodes, has been arrested for stalking and uttering death threats.

As you slowly review everything you thought you knew about your childhood, the Associated Press is reporting that Robbins was picked up on Sunday at the Mexican/U.S. border.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokeswoman didn’t offer too many details other than confirming the arrest at the San Ysidro Port of Entry and noting that a background check pulled up an earlier warrant against the 56-year-old actor from the San Diego County sheriff’s department.

He’s set to be arraigned Wednesday on counts of stalking and making a threat to cause death or great bodily injury. No word if the alleged victim is of the human or pumpkin variety.

If convicted, Robbins will join an uncomfortably long list of actors on children’s shows who have been nabbed for very un-Saturday-morning-cartoon behaviour.

Most recently, police cuffed Fred Willard, an actor who has given voice to characters in a number of children’s animated features, for allegedly participating a little too enthusiastically in a Hollywood adult movie theatre.

He joins the ranks of reported self-enthusiast Paul Reubens, better known as Pee Wee Herman, who was charged with indecent exposure back in 1991 when life was simpler and far more innocent.

And let’s not even discuss the charges against former Sesame Street Elmo actor Kevin Clash because we need to leave a shred of hope intact.

Naturally, the news has brought out the commentariat humour ranks, with Huffington Post’s finest sparring for witty domination.

“Guess he was being a bit too Snoopy,” writes TheFabOne, kicking off a parade of perfect puns.

“It's Jail Time Charlie Brown!” cracks another commenter.

“He still resents that football getting pulled away the last moment,” offered a more diplomatic reader.

In any event, Linus might need get down to southern California soon with some bail money.
