Burger King pays for Burger-King wedding

It’s being called “a whopper of a wedding.”

College sweethearts (and childhood friends) Joel Burger and Ashley King are set to tie the knot on July 17 — with Burger King footing the bill.

Last week, the State Journal-Register announced the New Berlin, Illinois, couple’s engagement.

The story went viral, and word of an impending “Burger-King” wedding made its way to Burger King.

“When Burger King Corporation heard about the happy Burger-King couple, we felt an overwhelming urge to celebrate their upcoming marriage,” a spokesperson for Burger King told BuzzFeed. “It felt like fate: They found each other and their story found us.”

Over a Skype call with the couple, a Burger King representative announced that the fast-food chain would be paying for their wedding.

“We were just blown away,” Joel told the State Journal-Register.

“We were shaking,” Ashley added.

“All we ask in return is that they live happily ever after,” the Burger King spokesperson said. “And maybe name their first child Chicken Fry.”

Burger King will also be providing personalized gift bags — and Burger King crowns — for the wedding.

Burger and King have been teased for their surnames since the fifth grade, when they both participated in a school assembly. The motivational speaker dubbed them “Burger King” — and the name stuck.

“We have yet to escape the teasing,” Ashley told the State Journal-Register, “but we have fully embraced our nickname.”
