A Canadian woman was shocked to find a snake in a can of Ocean Spray cranberry sauce over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Aimee Casciato of St. Catharines, Ont. said a garter snake fell out when she was dumping the can’s contents into a bowl, according to CHCH.

Casciato contacted the company after making the unsettling discovery and was reportedly offered coupons.

“When she offered ten dollars in coupons I said, ‘are you kidding me? I’m not really interested in buying your product anymore’, Casciato told CHCH. “So she said I’ll send you a ten dollar rebate.”

She posted photos on Facebook days later showing the snake swirled in among the dark coloured berries.

Casciato wrote on the post saying she’d contacted the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and they’d already picked up the serpent.

Ocean Spray says they’re working with the CFIA to figure out what happened but, according to CHCH, they may never know exactly how the snake got in the can because of the complexity of its manufacturing process.

“We take all customer reports very seriously and were very sorry to hear this customer had a disappointing experience with our product and out brand,” Senior Manager of Cooperative Communications Kellyanne Dignan told CTVNews.ca.

“This is an isolated incident and all products currently in stores or in homes remain safe to consume.”
