Car crashes through a Florida CVS, missing an elderly woman by mere inches

Well that was close!

There's nothing quite like a car coming at you at 50mph in a pharmacy to wake you up in the morning!

Adrienne Watkins, 80, can attest to this, after nearly being mowed down by a car that had crashed through a Florida CVS on Wednesday.

Seconds before Watkins leaned forward at the cash counter, a car pummeled through the store at full speed, missing her by mere inches.

The driver of the vehicle, 84-year-old Margaret Underwood, had waited in the car while her husband ran into the store.

When he returned, Underwood began to back out of the parking space and that’s when she hit a Chevy Suburban. Her husband got out to assess the damage, while Underwood proceeded to pull back into her parking spot.

Just then, for reasons unknown, Underwood floored it. She crashed straight through the front doors of the CVS store, nearly killing Watkins inside.

"All of a sudden I was on the floor, curled up," said Watkins in an interview, reflecting on the incident.

CVS associate Stormy Fulcomer heard what happened and rushed over to find Watkins lying on the floor. The car was stopped, but still on, engine revving and tires still spinning. After securing Watkins in a safe place, he helped Underwood out of the car and ensured the vehicle was turned off.

Luckily, no one was seriously injured, just seriously startled.

"God was looking after me no matter what," said Watkins, who is very thankful to be alive.

Underwood felt so terrible she sent a bouquet of flowers to Watkins to apologize. "She's such a lovely lady, I know she didn't do it on purpose at all," said Watkins.

The damage to the store is estimated at $65,000 and Underwood has been charged with Improper Backing and Careless Driving.
