Caught on tape: Kamikaze bird crashes through airplane windshield

Talk about keeping your cool.

Rob Weber was flying his single-engine plane on a trip to Page Field Airport in Fort Myers, Florida, when the windshield of his plane exploded.

Weber, an 11-year veteran flyer, was hit by a bird while he was travelling at about 270 km/h.

In a second, the windshield was gone and there was blood everywhere.

"You're sitting there waiting for a bird to come in. Never did see him. All of the sudden the window just explodes. I don't know if he was diving or what happened when I got him," Weber told NBC.

At over 1,000 feet in the air, Weber calmly called in a "mayday" and guided the plane in for a soft landing.

Weber only suffered a cut to his forehead.
