Deputy’s retirement dance in elevator goes viral

It looks like El Paso County Sheriff’s Deputy Tony Scherb is retiring on a high note – and a quick step. After 29 years of service, Scherb, of Colorado Springs, decided to take part in a memorable exit video, which features him and several colleagues getting their groove on in an elevator to Silentó’s “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)”.

A camera installed in the elevator captures Scherb and his cohorts doing their best at attempting the whip and nae nae. The party promptly stops as soon as their boss steps in – and continues going when he exits.

It seems the Internet can’t get enough of Scherb, featured in the video wearing a button down orange shirt. Since Friday, it’s been viewed on Facebook over 5 million times.

“A great way to end my shift! Tony can definitely make anyone laugh, one of the best guys I have had the pleasure of working with. Makes me so proud to be apart of such a great place,” wrote one commenter.

“I love this!!! These guys and girls deserve a break and to break loose sometimes too… Cops get such a bad wrap but at the end of the day they’re people to who like to enjoy life and have a good time,” wrote another.

While he may be remembered internationally for his ability to cut a rug, Scherb’s co-workers know him as a professional and helpful deputy.

“Tony earned the reputation from his peers and supervisors as being highly professional and exceptionally knowledgeable,” reads a statement on the Sheriff Office’s Facebook page.

No word yet on whether his post-deputy career will involve a dance studio. Here’s hoping.
