A man who pretended to be a war hero on social media is getting sharp criticism for his photoshop skills.

Dave Harper shared an image “taken in 1969” to his Facebook page of him holding a Military Cross medal, according The Walter Mitty Hunters Club, a website dedicated to looking for fake posers.

When Harper posted the fake picture, he claimed that it was an “old photo” he found in an envelope.

“Most of my belongings were destroyed when my Aunt’s house was burned very badly. I had forgotten about them,” he added.

Apparently he used a genuine photo from 2012 of Lance Corporal Alfie Pope and pasted his own face into the picture.

He also told his friends he was given the medal for serving in Northern Ireland in 1969, Metro reports.

In the original photo, however, Pope is holding a medal for serving in Afghanistan.

Despite all the bad photoshop skills, one of Harper’s friend appears to have bought it when he commented: “You have gone even further in my estimation.”

Others weren’t fooled.

Facebook user, Mark Mac McKendry wrote: “A blind man could have made a better job of that photoshop.”

While user, Edward Denmark added: “Funny but on a serious note he must be mentally ill.”

Harper has made his Facebook page private since being exposed.
