While campaigning in Vancouver, Justin Trudeau was caught off-guard and faced some ‘tough’ questions from Canadian celebrity interviewer, Nardwuar the Human Serviette.

Nardwuar wore his trademark hat and added some levity to the Liberal Leader’s press conference.

During the question period on Thursday, Nardwuar held a pile of novelty records and began to quiz Trudeau about his family’s “rich, rich, rock and roll tradition.

“I was curious, are you aware of this record, by Dinah Christie, called Justin Pierre?” Nardwaur asked Trudeau.

“I hate to date myself, because I try to talk about how old I am as often as I can. I’m actually turning 45 next year. But I don’t have that particular song on my iPod,” Trudeau replied.

The celebrity interviewer also inquired about “Go Go Trudeau” by The Sinners.

Trudeau wasn’t holding back and poked fun of the other leaders.

“I prefer ‘Go Go Harper’,” the Liberal Leader responded.

Eventually, Nardwuar picked up his toy and asked Trudeau to do the “Hip Flip” game with him.

It’s a 1960s game involving two people standing on either side of a stick, bracing the plastic hands on each end against their stomachs. A spinning plastic piece hangs in the middle and the objective is to make it flip around the stick by moving your hips.

“Paul Martin did the Hip Flip game,” Nardwaur recalled as Trudeau and reporters looked on. “Jean Chretien did the Hip Flip game. Jack Layton did the Hip Flip game. Michael Ignatieff did the Hip Flip game. Stephen Harper did not do the Hip Flip game. I was carried away by his security as I tried to approach him.”

The Liberal Leader agreed to do the Hip Flip but only after he took on more serious questions from everyone else.

Nardwaur asked Trudeau if he would stay true to his word and instead of saying ‘yes,’ he took a jab at NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair.

“You can. When I give my word I keep it, unlike someone who didn’t show up at Vancouver Pride a few months ago,” said the Liberal Leader.

Away from most of the cameras, Trudeau ended up sticking to his word and joined the Hip Flip club.

“It’s an exclusive membership. I’m very pleased about it,” Trudeau said.
