It’s not easy being green, especially if you get suspended for it.

An eight-year-old girl showed up to her New Jersey elementary school in a shirt that was deemed to be the wrong colour. As a result, she received a one-day suspension.

Her mother told WTXF-TV that Kylie was sent home from Winslow Township Elementary School No. 4 for wearing a kelly green polo shirt.

According to the school’s dress code, students must only wear shirts or blouses that are white, dark green or navy.

Being several shades off was considered a violation of the code, which states “school attire can influence a pupil’s behavior and potentially impact the academic environment.”

“My child messed up, I messed it up for my child, and she be suspended next time for it, but to suspend a child over the shade of a shirt. I found it a little ridiculous,“ she told the station.

Another woman told the station that her grandson was also suspended for wearing the wrong shade of blue, which she said he had worn to school regularly in the past.
