Montreal ranked 11th most romantic city in the world

A recent ranking of the world’s 25 most romantic cities has placed our own Montreal at No. 11, beating out European classics like Lisbon and American heavy hitter, New York City.

The list was created by dating website WeLoveDates.com, who reviewed “data on marriage rate, divorce rate, information on travel sites and forums, honeymoon websites and forums, and romantic history facts” to create this fun but perhaps less-than-scientific list of international capitals of love.

There were no surprises at number one, with Paris easily filling the top spot. Google “city of love” and the French capital pops up, and there’s no shortage of romantic activities in the birthplace of Serge Gainsbourg, from the Pont des Arts Bridge, covered in the locks of thousands of lovers, to the sexy evening shows at the Moulin Rouge.

Sydney, Australia comes in at No. 2 thanks to the multitude of activities on offer. And Venice is no shocker at No. 3, with its dreamy canal rides and stunning architecture. Other cities ranking above our own capital of romance include Kyoto, Bruges, Buenos Aires, Budapest, Dubrovnik, Florence and Prague.

SO why did Montral make the list?

“A little bit of Paris in North America, Montreal is a stunning blend of old world charm with a sophisticated twist-the best of both worlds! With seemingly limitless parks, cafes, and a charming city center, coupled with modern and sexy nightlife options, there is something for every couple in the cultural capital of Quebec.”

The list recommends that romantic canoodlers head down to The Triple Crown Dinette in Little Italy, which offers personalized picnic baskets to young lovers who want to dine en plein air.

While we’re a little sad the natural wonders of Vancouver or the bustling metropolis of Toronto weren’t considered romantic enough for this list, we’re happy Montreal landed a well-deserved top spot. Just don’t expect to be picnicking until the ground thaws – in four or five months.
