Nine-month-old baby accused of murder in Pakistan

A 9-month-old child has been charged with attempted murder.

A 9-month-old baby has been arrested for attempted murder in Pakistan.

It’s true. Appearing with his grandfather in court on Thursday to face the charges, 9-month-old Mohammad Musa and more than two dozen other people, including his family members, were accused of throwing rocks with intent to kill police in Lahore, on Feb. 1.

According to the Huffington Post, police were conducting a raid in the neighbourhood, cutting off gas and electricity supplies to the homes that had not paid their bills. The infant, his family, and many others allegedly then attacked police with rocks and wooden rods.

The chief inspector in charge that day, Kashif Muhammad, wrote in his First Incident report that it was a case of attempted murder. He has since been suspended.

Baby Mohammad Musa sat in the court on Friday on his father’s lap, clasping a bottle while they waited for the judge to sentence this terrifying toddler.

Video footage shows the grandfather assisting the baby in the fingerprinting process, literally taking his grandson’s thumb, and dipping it in the ink for him.

During the preceding, he began crying in the courtroom and was ultimately granted bail.

The family’s lawyer, Chaudhry Irfan Sadiq told AFP that the charges should have been dropped.

According to Sadiq, the court should have simply referred the minor’s case to the High Court, where the charges would be dropped – because, that’s right, he is only 9 months old.

Even the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Rana Abdul Jabbar, was appalled. “A 9-month-old can never commit such a crime. This incident took place due to sheer misunderstanding on the police’s part and was not done on purpose,” he said in a statement cited by The Express Tribune.

The case has been adjourned until April 12, and baby Mohammad is expected to attend.

Maybe he will have said his first words by then; let’s hope that they are “not guilty”.
