Noise complaints from San Francisco marathon redirected to sex chat line

Sleepy San Franciscans who called a hotline to complain about early morning noise from the Nike Women's Marathon this weekend didn't reach a sympathetic customer service representative. Rather, the lusty voice of a woman from a sex chat line greeted the angry residents after the city gave out the wrong phone number.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported residents who called the city's 311 line on Sunday, after roaring crowds from the marathon awoke them at 5:30 a.m., were told to call 1 (800) RUN-NIKE.

That number, while it sounds innocent enough, belongs to a phone sex company, which callers discovered soon after dialing.

Had the complainers called the correct, and only slightly different number to contact the Nike run — 1 (866) RUN-NIKE — they may have been convinced to forgive the early morning noise, if, for example, a persuasive Nike employee had told them that 30,000 runners were helping to raise millions for cancer research at the annual marathon.

Instead, they heard this: "Unzip that fly, baby." Er, what?

Social media users joked about calls to the Nike race turning racy.

However, none of the callers seems to have come forward to share an awkward story about explaining the mix-up to a sex line operator.
