Country superstar George Jones — one of the most-imitated singers in country music — died Friday at the age of 81.

Jones's signature sound was in his haunting melodies and heartbreaking lyrics over a 50-year career. His No. 1 singles included White Lightning, She Thinks I Still Care and He Stopped Loving Her Today.

Jones was also notorious for his hard-living lifestyle, which included battles with substance abuse, alcoholism and four marriages, including one to fellow country star Tammy Wynette.

Here are performances of some of Jones's best-known hit songs.
