Superfan fudges band’s Wiki page to get backstage

A superfan yearning to get close to his favourite band resorted to fudging the group’s Wikipedia page in order to make it backstage.

When David Spargo attended the Peking Duk concert in Melbourne this week, he made his way to the green room area with hopes of meeting the band. Since he didn’t have a lanyard or credentials, security guards stopped him before he could get too far. Thinking quickly, Spargo claimed to be related to band members Adam Hyde and Reuben Styles. When security pressed him further, Spargo pulled up the electronic duo’s Wikipedia page, which he’d quickly edited to say that he was a family member.

“It was probably the most genius, mastermind move that I’ve ever witnessed,” said Hyde. “It’s crazy. He just did it on the spot, in a second on his phone. He told the security guard he was our stepbrother or something, and showed them the Wikipedia page and his ID.”

When Spargo made his way to his ultimate destination – backstage – the band’s reaction was more admiration than concern.

“We ended up having a bunch of beers with him and he was an absolute legend. He wasn’t a creep or anything. He was like the most normal dude we’ve ever met. That’s what makes it more hilarious,” said Hyde.

The band posted their respect for their strong-willed fan on Twitter, along with a screengrab of the fudged Wikipedia page.
