Thai family uses crocodiles to guard home, stop burglars

For one Thai family, security is a scaly issue.

Homeowner Awirut Nathip has acquired rather toothy reptiles to guard his house against burglary, according to Sky News. Two crocodiles have lived outside the house for 15 years, the story says, and there haven't been any burglaries there since the creatures arrived, to the surprise of absolutely no one.

Judging from how one of the crocodiles darts out from his hiding place in the Sky News footage, he's quite a special security feature.

Well, that's one way to fight crime.

The homeowner told Sky he was confident the crocodiles would protect him.

It's unclear why the pet reptiles don't bite Nathip, as crocodiles don't seem like they possess the same sense of loyalty as, say, a golden retriever.

Sky did report that one of them lives under the house in a ditch because he is especially aggressive. Perhaps the trick to staying out of those gaping jaws is calling the crocodiles by their names, Thong and Nguen.

Just don't try to make them roll over or fetch.

The BBC reported about another unusual security system this week, this time a British farm using Alpacas to protect its baby sheep from foxes.

Alpacas seem like a cuddlier option for an outdoor pet than crocodiles, even if they're not especially secure for anyone other than their sheep friends.
