‘The Chickening’ could be the most absurd parody film of 2016

Parody film-followers, rejoice: ‘The Chickening’, a short parody of the cult classic film ‘The Shining’, will soon be coming to a screen near you.

The parody is the work of Toronto-based filmmakers Nick DenBoer and Davy Force. But why would this duo want to create a short film where Jack Nicholson goes insane, turns into a chicken and terrorizes his family while they vacation at the fictional Charbay’s Chicken World Restaurant and Resort?

DenBoer said it’s actually a pitch for a series where every episode would reprise a classic film in an absurd way.

“It’s a lot of fun to do and we think it’s got a lot of viral potential, but obviously there’s a lot of red tape in acquiring and regurgitating Hollywood’s sacred cows,” he told Birth. Movies. Death.

The film made its debut at Fantastic Fest 2015 - a U.S. movie festival devoted to horror, fantasy, sci-fi, action and just plain fantastic movies from all around the world.

The festival has previously been the cite of major motion picture premieres, such as Zombieland, Apocalypto, and There Will Be Blood.

You can check out the five minute short here, but might not want to do so at the office, DenBoer and Force have given it an ‘R’ rating - for ‘roosters’ and ‘hens’, because of some 'fowl’ language.
