These boys swam in all five Great Lakes in 13 hours

This trio swam in all five Great Lakes in a single day.

After wanting to do it for years, these boys just scratched an exciting item off of their bucketlist: swimming in all give Great Lakes in a single day.

Derek Atchison of St. Marys Ont., his 14-year-old son Josh and his brother Darren took the mission head on.

The day started at 4 a.m., when the trio drove 1,000 kilometres to swim in Lakes Ontario, Erie, Huron, Michigan and Superior over the span of 13 hours, the National Post reports.

Atchison, 41, has had his heart set on doing this after hearing a similar story about a father and son travelling by motorcycle to swim in the five lakes 10 years ago.

“As soon as I heard that, I thought: I’ve got to do it!” Atchison told the National Post. “It was an amazing adventure and we’re going to have memories that last a lifetime out of it.”

The three decided it would be fun to update their whereabouts via Twitter and Facebook, where they gained a modest following.

According to Twitter, the trio tackled Lake Ontario at around 6 a.m. at Hamilton’s Confederation Park.

Then they headed to Port Dover for a dip in Lake Erie.

They crossed over to Linwood, MI to swim in Lake Huron at 1:27 p.m.

Then to Petoskey, MI to cross off Lake Michigan.

And finally, at 7:15 p.m., the group finished off Lake Superior in Michigan’s Brimley State Park.

According to the Simcoe Reformer, they finished the day off with camping, a cookout and one more dip at sunset.
