U2 play surprise show in NYC subway

This is one way to improve the daily commute.

U2 will be Jimmy Fallon’s only guests on the Tonight Show this Friday.

For what appears to be prerecorded segments for the show, the band and Jimmy Fallon have been spotted all around New York City this week.

Most notably, the Irish rockers showed up unannounced — and, initially, in disguise — at the subway stop beneath Grand Central Terminal to perform their 1988 hit, “Angel of Harlem.”

Almost immediately, photos and videos of the surprise concert started popping up online.

Even Mario Batalli caught the show. (We’re assuming he was tipped off in advance.)

Buskers have never been so popular.

On Sunday, Bono and Fallon were spotted on bikes in the city, filming a comedy bit that spoofs Bono’s serious November bicycle crash in Central Park from which he’s still recovering. (The crash postponed the band’s plans for an extended residency on the show last fall.)

U2’s world tour kicks off in Vancouver later this month.
