Wesley Warren Jr. reluctant to have surgery to fix 45-kg scrotum

Nevada man receives offers to have the million-dollar surgery for free, but he's not interested

A U.S. man who requires surgery to repair his 45-kilogram scrotum is reluctant to go under the knife even if the million-dollar surgery is free.

Wesley Warren believes his condition began in 2008 when he was turning in his bed and accidentally squashed his testicles with his legs. He said his testicles ballooned up to the size of a soccer ball overnight and kept getting bigger. He now uses a hoodie upside down to cover his scrotum and his penis is so deeply buried in the growth that he has trouble going to the bathroom. It's an extremely rare condition called scrotal elephantiasis.

Warren is seen in this video from October:

Last year he began a campaign to raise money for the costly surgery, which isn't available locally in Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Review-Journal profiled him first in October and since then Warren has appeared on the Howard Stern Show, Comedy Central and will be the subject of an upcoming Learning Channel documentary.

Warren turned down an offer from the Dr. Oz show to have surgery done for free because they wanted exclusive rights to the story in exchange for the cost. A second doctor from the University of California, Irvine, is also offering his services for free as long as Nevada Medicaid pays for the hospital room, reports the Review-Journal.

While the Review-Journal article reports Warren is embracing his new-found celebrity status, he's scared of dying on the operating table.

The reporter notes Warren was quite somber and suffered from bouts of depression back in October, but he's now enjoying being a celebrity and talks about his upcoming TV appearances.

Warren rejects that being on TV and radio is keeping him from going through with the surgery.

"Who would want to live like this?" he said. "I just don't want to die during the operation."

Warren has a large scrotal lymphedema, which causes the scrotum to swell with a watery fluid. Doctors must first remove the excess tissue and then completely rebuild his scrotum. The surgery could cause major bleeding and there is a small chance doctors would have to cut off his penis and testicles.
