Why Steve Jobs never drove with license plates

Steve Jobs could easily be spotted driving around and people could identify his parked car because he never had license plates.

Steve Wozniak suggested he had a special permit because he was trying to be anonymous and some outlets said he would just pay the fines if caught by police, but the true answer is not as exciting and far simpler.

Photos of Steve Jobs' Mercedes without a license plate

iTWire reports the former Apple CEO or someone close to him discovered a loophole in California's vehicle laws stating people have six months to put license plates on new car. So before the car was six months old, Jobs would exchange his silver Mercedes SL55 AMG for an identical one. Therefore, he would never have to put license plates on his cars.

Maybe it was Jobs' way of thinking differently outside of the office. But if he was trying to remain anonymous, nothing screams look at me like a $130,000 car with no plates. He was also known to park sideways in handicap parking spots on Apple's California campus.
