Last week, Google made some news by giving users an easier way to undo sent emails on Gmail. For most, the ability to undo a sent message was a thing of legend, despite being available for several years. The fabled feature was buried beneath menus and wasn't all that easy to find unless you thoroughly explored the settings.

But Google isn’t the only one with secrets, there are many popular apps and social media sites that boast little-used settings and features that could prove convenient in a jam.

Facebook

If you ever wanted a complete rundown of everything you've ever posted to Facebook, you can do that with the simple click of a link. At the top right of the Facebook home page, click the settings icon and then click on 'See More Settings'. Hit the 'General Settings' tab on the left and scroll down to find the 'Download a copy of your Facebook data' link. Now you'll have a comprehensive treasure trove of pictures, posts and other stuff which will make for a fun walk through memory lane. Have fun!

Facebook Chat is a convenient medium for those who sit at a desktop and don't want to stare at their phones all day checking for messages. But, as we all know, there are some people that you just don't ever want to talk to. Thankfully, Facebook makes it easy to cut them out as all you need to do is expand the chat list, click the settings gear and motion towards the 'Advanced Settings' menu. From here, you can disable chat for those people that just can't take the hint.

Twitter

Pinning content on Twitter is a great way to give your followers timely information as soon as they visit your page. To do this, first compose your tweet as normal and post to your page. Now, click the ellipsis (the three dots) for a couple of extra settings. Select 'Pin to your profile page' to make it sit above the rest of your tweets. A pinned tweet will remain there until unpinned so be sure remove it when the information is no longer relevant.

Whatsapp

If you don't want people to know when you've last used Whatsapp, you can hide your visibility with a few easy steps. Hop into the settings menu, click 'Account' and then 'Privacy'. In here, you can hide your online status in addition to your profile photo and current status. You can also turn off message receipts too if you don't want your contacts to know when you've read their messages. Disabling the read receipts will also disable them for you so think wisely before turning this off.

Instagram

Instagram is great for sharing and editing pictures but having the original photos for later use is also valuable. Thankfully, Instagram has a feature that lets you do your Instagram thing as well as keep photos at their original, unaltered and uncompressed state. To enable the setting, open your Instagram account, click your profile and make your way to the settings menu. From there, check the 'Save Original Photos' slider and voila! You'll have your filtered Instagram pictures along with the originals saved on your phone.
