Giant snakes swallows crocodile after epic five-hour battle

A snake's ability to unhinge its jaw and swallow prey whole is pretty impressive, but this giant water python spotted near Mount Isa, in Queensland, Australia, is taking it from impressive to incredible.

The end of this epic battle, which witnesses said probably went on for around five hours, was caught on film by Tiffany Corlis, on Sunday.

"[The crocodile] was fighting at the start, so it was trying to keep its head out of water and survive," said Corlis, according to the Brisbane Times. "‘But as the morning sort of progressed, you could tell that both of them were getting a little weaker. Finally, the croc sort of gave in and the snake had uncoiled for a little while and had a brief break and then actually started to consume the crocodile."

Of course, this kind of thing isn't particularly rare, but it's unusual when people actually see it happening and can capture pictures of it.

According to the Brisbane Times, Bryan Fry, an associate professor from the University of Queensland’s School of Biological Science said that the snake likely wouldn't have to eat again for a month.
