’100 Men Who Give a Damn’ charity set to launch in Calgary

Inspired by a conversation with the woman who started 100 Women Who Care Calgary, business owners Oliver Baezner and Alex Putici decided to launch 100 Men Who Give a Damn Calgary.

"I get excited about this initiative because it is a great way to get a bunch of guys together who give a damn to have an impact in their community," Baezner said in a release. "There is a connection that comes from that, a common bond."

The all-boys club will meet for a one-hour meeting four times a year, during which each of its 100 members will donate $100. With those donations, four local charities will each receive $10,000 over the course of the year.

Baezner hopes local businessmen will be attracted to the simplicity of the group's premise.

"Let's give back to the community, make it simple, make it painless," he told the Calgary Sun. "It's simple and powerful."

So far, about 40 men have signed up for the group's first meeting, which will be held on June 10th at the Danish Canadian Club (despite the name of the group, more than 100 members are welcome to join).

100 Men Who Give a Damn Halifax launched last fall.

"Our name is a little bit edgy, but it's because we believe in it so strongly. We do care and we do give a damn, and it’s a very important thing to do for our community," Steve Foran, co-founder of the Halifax group, told the Chronicle Herald earlier this year.

"Every one of us makes a difference with what we do, but when you pull together as a group of people to a common cause and directly put your efforts to something, you can do so much more than you could ever do on your own," Foran added.
